It’s official, the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500, along with its cousin the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, is the most powerful light-duty pickup truck on the road.

The Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE) certified the 6.2L V8, which will be available in both trucks later this fall, at 420 horsepower and 460 ft-lb of torque. This beats the light-duty marks from competitors like Ford, Nissan, and Toyota.

As you can see from the numbers above, General Motors’ 6.2L V8 creates the most capable and powerful light-duty pickup.

In a press release from General Motors, Jeff Luke, chief engineer for GM,  said that “power and towing are fundamental capabilities for full-size pickups”, adding that “the 2014 Silverado and Sierra deliver unmatched power and towing capability with a host of ingenious driver aids.”

The 6.2L V8 will be available in 1500 versions of the Silverado LTZ, Silverado High Country.

When properly equipped, these trucks deliver a class-leading maximum trailering capacity of 12,000 lbs.

The Max Trailering Package, which is available in 2WD, 4WD, crew cab, and double cab models, includes the following features:

  • 7-pin and 4-pin connector
  • Enhanced cooling
  • Automatic locking rear differential
  • Heavy-duty rear axle
  • Increased-capacity leaf springs
  • Revised shock tuning
  • Trailer brake control

All three engines available in the 2014 Chevy Silverado (4.3L V6, 5.3L V8, 6.2L V8) are made of light-weight yet-sturdy aluminum, and come with fuel-saving technology such as cylinder deactivation and variable valve timing.

2014 Silverado: The Mark of Excellence

Not only does the 2014 Silverado boast the most powerful light-duty truck, it also has the most fuel-efficient V8 in the 5.3L engine.

The 5.3 is has an EPA-estimated 23 mpg highway, better than the Ford EcoBoost V6.

The Silverado is the first truck to earn a 5-Star safety rating, and has one of the most comprehensive processes to prevent corrosion.
