2014 Silverado 1500: Tops in Light-Duty Horsepower and Torque

It’s official, the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500, along with its cousin the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, is the most powerful light-duty pickup truck on the road.

The Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE) certified the 6.2L V8, which will be available in both trucks later this fall, at 420 horsepower and 460 ft-lb of torque. This beats the light-duty marks from competitors like Ford, Nissan, and Toyota.

General Motors and Chevrolet Setting the Pace for Lease Deals

As the American auto industry makes a steady recovery, a commonly used sales tool is getting increase attention.

Leasing, which was all but dropped by General Motors during 2008 and 2009, has made a comeback and is now a major part of the automaker’s playbook.

Although many manufacturers nearly dropped leasing altogether, over the past couple of years leasing is quickly making a comeback as an affordable way to finance a car, with General Motors setting the pace among the Detroit Three.

2014 Chevy Malibu is First to Offer Standard Start/Stop Technology

The 2014 Chevy Malibu, coming to Cedar Rapids and Iowa City in the fall, is the first midsize sedan in the U.S. to offer fuel-saving start/stop technology as a standard feature.

The system, which automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop, will be available in the base 2.4L engine 2014 Malibu.

General Motors Has More ENERGY STAR Facilities Than Any Other Organization

General Motors, maker of Chevrolet vehicles, has added another achievement to their environmental efforts.

With 9 more ENERGY STAR compliant plants, the company now has a total of 63, more than any other organization in the world.

The U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry is a voluntary program that asks facilities and companies to reduce energy consumption by 10% within five years.

2014 Silverado Becomes First Truck to Earn 5-Star Safety Score

The 2014 Silverado, along with its sister, the GMC Sierra, has earned a 5-Star Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This makes the all-new trucks the first to ace the NHTSA’s tests since it updated the program in 2011.

Last week, Chevrolet gave journalists and media members the chance to drive the 2014 Corvette Stingray, soon to be released to select dealerships, including Pat McGrath Chevyland in Cedar Rapids.

During a special event at GM’s proving grounds in Milford Michigan, along with a few west coast event in California, lucky writers and editors were able to get behind the hotly anticipated sports car.

GM makes $900,000 Donation to Technology and Engineering Education

General Motors, maker of Chevrolet vehicles, has announced a $900,000 donation to Project Lead The Way (PLTW), a leading non-profit educator.

John Calabrese, GM VP of Global Vehicle Engineering, announced the $300,000, three-year renewable grant, which will contribute specifically to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum.

According to a press release from PLTW, students who complete the programs will be better equipped to meet the demands of a global workforce in STEM-related fields.

2014 Impala is First Detroit 3 Car to Top Consumer Reports Sedan Ranking

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala has received a milestone score from Consumer Reports.

With a Road Test Score of 95 out of 100, the 2014 Impala became the first car from the Detroit 3 (Ford Motors, Chrysler Group, General Motors) to lead the sedan segment.

GM Reaching Environmental Goal, Continues Commitment

General Motors, maker of Chevrolet, has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing energy use and the environmental impact of both its vehicles and operating facilities.

GM has reduced energy use by 7% and carbon emissions by 5% since 2010. The company also increased the number of landfill-free facilities to 105, saving total waste by 8% since 2010.

The automaker began tracking progress toward its 2020 environmental priorities, which were laid out in last year’s Sustainability Report.
