Happy 60th Birthday Chevrolet Corvette!

On June 30th, 1953, the first Chevy Corvette rolled off the assembly line in Flint, Michigan. Since that time, over 1.5 million Corvettes have been produced.

Sunday marked the 60th birthday for Chevy’s iconic sports car.

The Chevrolet Corvette first made a public appearance at the 1953 General Motors Autorama in New York City on Jan 30th. That event sparked a limited production of 300 1953 Chevrolet Corvettes.

Performance Numbers Released for 2014 Corvette Stingray

Chevrolet has released the official performance numbers for the 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51, and just like the car’s exterior styling, the numbers are going to impress.

The all-new Corvette with the Z51 Performance Package is capable of achieving 0-60 in a rapid 3.8 seconds. It can brake from 60-0 in only 107 ft, and sustain 1.03 g in cornering grip.

Chevrolet Vehicles Help GM Reach the Top of J.D. Power’s Quality Study

J.D. Power and Associates released the results of their annual Initial Quality Study, and GM is sitting at the top, with 5 Chevy vehicles taking top honors in their respective segments.

Chevrolet landed in the top 5 with sibling brand GMC. These two GM brands were the only two non-luxury brands in the top five.

The study measures the number of problems on 2013 cars and light trucks reported by buyers after 90 days of ownership.

GM Offering New Free Maintenance Program

GM announced that most 2014 models of Buick, GMC, and Chevrolet vehicles will receive a new maintenance plan that covers certain scheduled services.

While some alternative-fuel models do not include the oil-changes, and some high-performance vehicles are not eligible for tire rotations when the service is not recommended, GM emphasized that the vast majority of 2014 vehicles will be included.

2014 Corvette Stingray Will Produce Record-Setting 460 Horsepower

The numbers are in.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray with Chevy’s all-new LT1 6.2L V-8 is officially certified at 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.

These numbers are for a 2014 Corvette equipped with the available performance exhaust system.

Without the sandard exhaust, the still cranks out 455 horsepower and maintains the 460 lb-ft of torque.

GM says these numbers are the highest output for a standard equipped Corvette.

The engine is also expected to deliver 26 mpg.

According to GM, the 2014 Chevy Spark EV can save its owners up to $9,000 in fuel costs over a five-year period.

Chevy Spark’s Electric Motor Being Built in the USA

18 months ago, Chevy announced that it would produce electric motors in the U.S.

Now that promise has been fulfilled.

Production of electric motors destined for the Chevy Spark has begun at the Baltimore Operations plant in White Marsh, Maryland.

Small Chevy Truck Coming to the Lineup

According to General Motors North America President Mark Ruess, GM (Chevrolet’s parent company) is getting back into the smaller truck segment, with two all new trucks coming next year.

While Ruess succeeded in keeping the details to himself, he said these new pickups (one for Chevy and one for sibling brand GMC) will have better fuel economy and will be able to do 95% of the work done by a full-size pickup.
