When I was growing up my parents bought their fair share of vehicles—seven, to be exact. So when we were looking for a vehicle it always came down to three things: durability, passenger space, and a cheap price tag.

When it comes to car shopping for your family, there are lots of options to consider. Not all families are alike (ahem, five children). That’s why Edmunds.com and Parents magazine partnered up to provide auto consumers the top 15 vehicles of 2012 for families. And, because they understand how distinct “family” means, they went over hundreds of vehicles and organized the best ones into categories that fit different needs.

2012 Chevrolet Sonic

2012 Chevrolet Sonic

Pat McGrath Chevyland is proud to have two Chevy models included in this list: the Chevrolet Sonic and Chevrolet Cruze Eco. Below is a basic overview of each and why you should check out these two models as a possibility for your next family vehicle.

2012 Chevy Sonic

[Category: Budget]

  • The Sonic model was among three vehicles in the category labeled “Budget,” and it’s obvious why. The MSRP starts at an incredible value of $13,865. The basic level trim is the LS 4dr, which has a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine and is a 5-speed manual. The LS 6-speed automatic has only a $1,070 difference, at $14,935.
  • The Sonic is available as a sedan or a four-door hatchback. Not only is it cheap up front, but it gets up to 36 city and 35 hwy mpg, saving you money every week at the pump. The passenger cabin is comfortable and can easily fit cargo within its in-cabin storage capabilities. In terms of safety, it provides side curtain airbags and stability/traction control for better handling. This 2012 Chevy model is definitely a steal.

2012 Chevy Cruze Eco

[Category: Fuel Sippers]

  • There are five available trim styles with the Chevy Cruze, and Eco is one of them. Most importantly, the Eco is engineered for premium fuel efficiency. The turbocharged 1.4L 4-cylinder engine boasts up to a 28 city and 42 highway mpg EPA rating, based on how you drive.
  • Saving you trips to the gas station means the 2012 Cruze Eco makes it a point to be as light as possible. That’s why it has low-rolling-resistant tires, a tinier fuel tank, lightweight alloy wheels, and other special aerodynamic features. Stay protected with stability/traction control and side curtain airbags. Save money and fuel with the Chevy Cruze Eco!
