General Motors is giving more fuel-efficient options for fleet managers.
Next year Chevrolet will offer compressed natural gas options for the 2015 Chevy Silverado heavy-duty and 2014 Chevy Express passenger van.
About the Compressed Natural Gas System:
The system helps customers significantly reduce their environmental impact and can help cut fuel costs by roughly half compared to gasoline.
GM says that many customers can recoup the initial price of the CNG system within a few years.
According to a press release from General Motors, more than 99% of the natural gas used in the U.S. comes from domestic and other North American sources.
2014 Chevy Express CGN:
The Express passenger van can carry up to 15 people and still have room for cargo and equipment.
The CGN versions of the 2014 Chevy Express passenger van joins other cargo vans that GM has offered to fleet operators for years.
2015 Chevy Silverado Bi-Fuel:
The bi-fuel versions of the 2015 Chevy Silverado will support the leading capabilities of the current Silverado, while supporting CNG or gasoline.
Separate fuel-tanks enable drivers to switch between the fuel systems at the push of a button, while an automated system switches to gasoline when the CNG tank is empty.
GM estimates that the bi-fuel trucks will have a total driving range of 650 miles.
“With these new vehicles, General Motors offers the most comprehensive lineup of manufacturer-engineered, validated and warranted CNG vehicles, helping fleet managers manage their budget and reduce their carbon footprint.”
– Ed Peper, GM Fleet and Commercial Sales
Both the Silverado and Express will be covered by a comprehensive five-year/100,000 mile warranty.
