The Chevrolet SS stole the show at the Daytona 500 last week, with Jimmie Johnson capping the memorable week on a checkered flag for his #48 Chevrolet.
Johnson and his Chevy SS took the lead with 10 laps to go and held off a last-lap onslaught by the rest of the field to earn a 1st place finish.
Chevrolet SS Makes Impressive Debut at Daytona
In its first race, the Chevy SS took 6 of the top ten spots in the 2013 Daytona 500, making it a highly successful day for the newly unveiled Chevrolet racecar.
“I had a lot of confidence those final few laps, leading the train…I knew just how fast this car was.”
-Jimmie Johnson, Driver of the #48 Chevrolet SS
Danica Patrick was the star of the week as she made history by becoming the first woman to earn a top pole position.
She was also the first woman to lead a lap at the Daytona 500 when she pushed her Go Daddy #10 Chevy SS to the front during lap #90. Patrick and her Chevy would end up in 8th place.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., one of the most well-known NASCAR drivers in history, steered his #88 Chevrolet SS to a 2nd place finish. During the last lap he avoided a crash and jumped from 4th to 2nd place.
Other notable Chevrolet SS drivers for the 2013 season include Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Kevin Harvick.
