We all know the new Corvette Stingray is a fast, nimble, and impressive performance car, but just how fast is it?
Now you (and all your friends) can know precisely how well your Corvette is doing by recording and sharing performance video with embedded data thanks to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR), which will be available for the 2015 Corvette Stingray.
The Innovative PDR for the Corvette Stingray
The industry-first system provides integrated video, audio, and performance information in one easy-to-use package.
Videos can be viewed in-car when parked, and can be downloaded to a device for sharing through social media.
13 hours worth of data can be stored at one time, giving drivers the ability to record longer trips.
Consisting of four primary components, the PDR system will allow users to record HD video and permit information overlays within the footage. The first component is a 720p HD camera that is sealed within the windshield header, the 2nd part is a telemetry recorder that is responsible for collecting information. The next piece is a dedicated SD card slot for transferring the video and data. Lastly, there is also a cabin microphone that records sound, including cabin noise, tire squeals and engine notes.
Because the system is wired directly into the Corvette’s interface, it can easily access all sorts of information, including RPM, transmission gear, braking force, and steering-wheel angle.
The PDR system can be set to four different modes, each offering a unique combination of information:
- Track: Shows the maximum amount of data, including speed, RPM, g-force, and lap time
- Sport: Shows fewer details while including speed and g-force information
- Touring: A simple way to record and display video and audio without any extra data
- Performance: Focuses on performance marks including 0-to-60 times, 1/4-mile times, and more
